What is Namenda?
Namenda is a medicine that is used to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.
 
 
Are there any side effects associated with Namenda?
Namenda side effects may include confusion, dizziness, hallucinations, headache, and tiredness. If the side effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Less common Namenda side effects may include anxiety, cystitis, hypertonia (an increase in muscle tone), increased libido, and vomiting.
 
How is Namenda taken?
Follow the directions for taking Namenda provided by your doctor. Namenda can be taken with or without food. The recommended starting dose of Namenda is 5 mg once daily. The recommended target dose is 20 mg/day. The dose should be increased in 5 mg increments to 10 mg/day (5 mg twice a day), 15 mg/day (5 mg and 10 mg as separate doses), and 20 mg/day (10 mg twice a day). The minimum recommended interval between dose increases is 1 week. If you miss a dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
 
Are there any effects of taking Namenda with other medications?
Some medicines may interact with Namenda. Inform your doctor of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Namenda with amantadine, ketamine, dextromethorphane, dantrolen, baclofen, cimetidine, ranitidine, procainamide, quinidine, quinine, nicotine, hydrochlorothiazide (or combined preparations containing hydrochlorothiazide), anticholinergics, anticonvulsives, barbiturates, dopaminergic antagonists, or neuroleptics.
 
How should I store Namenda?
Store Namenda at room temperature in a tightly closed container, away from heat and light.
