Clindamycin

What is Clindamycin?
Clindamycin is an antibiotic used to treat acne.

Are there any side effects associated with Clindamycin?
Clindamycin side effects may include burning, itching, peeling skin, reddened skin, and skin dryness. If the side effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Less common or rare Clindamycin side effects may include abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, colitis, diarrhea, oily skin, skin inflammation and irritation, and stomach and intestinal disturbances.

How is Clindamycin taken?
Follow the directions for taking Clindamycin provided by your doctor. Excessive use of Clindamycin can cause your skin to become too dry or irritated. If you miss a dose apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule.

Are there any effects of taking Clindamycin with other medications?
Some medicines may interact with Clindamycin. Inform your doctor of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. If you have diarrhea while taking Clindamycin, check with your doctor before taking an antidiarrhea medication, as certain drugs may cause your diarrhea to become worse. The diarrhea should not be treated with the commonly used drugs that slow movement through the intestinal tract.

How should I store Clindamycin?
Store Clindamycin at room temperature in a tightly closed container, away from heat and light.
